Mobile applications were innovative technological solutions just a few years ago. Today, just like everything related to the IT technology, they are widely prevalent in their use, the number and diversity.
The main purpose of a mobile application is to facilitate user’s business and personal actions or simply to provide the entertainment and information. Now we have applications for taking notes, paying parking, processing photos, playing music and games, for social networks and various other things. We shall not forget about the applications that help us tracking physical activities, hours of sleep, etc. Mobile applications are developed for almost everything that might come to the mind.
Facts about mobile apps are unrelenting. It is widely expected to have more than 100 million downloads of various applications around the world this year. According to Gartner Inc, it will rise to about 268 million downloads in 2017. The American Dialect Society’s voted for the word “app” as the “Word of the Year” in 2010. If you still have not decided what you’re going to study, Mobile Application Development is perhaps the right occupation that has a future.
There are so many actions that mobile apps facilitate us in everyday life. We can surely give some good examples. Instead of waiting to connect with friends on another continent through the fixed phone or the dial-up connection, now we can do it simply by logging in to the application. We were used to wait for the bus for half an hour, without knowing when it will get to the station. Now all respectable transport companies have an application that can inform you exactly when and from where the buss comes from. Days when we vainly tried to find an address are over, because Google now offers us all in its Maps application. Also, we can hardly find a person that does not have social applications like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Viber or Instagram installed on his tablet or smartphone.
However, like everything in this world, so as the applications have their own disadvantages. Many “conspiracy theorists” claim that smartphones caused losing contact with real people, less talking, less hanging out and spending some quality time with friends. Just remember the expansion of signs in cafes around the world: “We do have wi-fi, but you should still talk to your friends”. Applications are invented to facilitate our daily life, to be combined with real-time people and use the best of them. But every single person decides how it will be used.
There is a reason why mobile applications are so popular: because we carry our phones everywhere. It facilitates communication and many other activities while in motion, and even pays our bills. Media, websites
for online sale or any other online service, may be considered old-fashioned if do not have their own application. Do not
waste time thinking if you are alienated by mobile apps, but get the most of what they offer and share it with your friends.
